Range Officer Training PDF Print E-mail

range officerBSA guidelines permit BB gun and archery shooting under the supervision of trained and currently certified Range Officers. Range Officers are trained and certified by Council approved National Camping School certified Shooting Sports Directors. This training is for adults, age 18 or older, interested in leading a shooting sport activity at Day Camp, Camporee, etc. Range Officer certification is granted for 2 years and must be retaken after 2 years in order to maintain certification.

The Boy Scouts of America uses responsible outdoor activities to promote character development and values-based leadership training. Shooting sports have the ability to attract and retain youth in the movement. Millions of young people participate in one or more of the sports annually - archery, rifle shooting, shotgun activities, etc. - guided by adult volunteers who have the skills and knowledge to provide quality programs in a safe and effective way.

Parades PDF Print E-mail

100FlagParadeThere are several big parades throughout the Aquila District during the month of July. Scouts can choose to march in one or all of them! Really! The more the merrier! Ideally each parade would have a single, large Scout presence instead of several smaller, separate groups. This includes Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Camp Fire, Venturing Scouts, Sea Scouts, Varsity Scouts, etc. In order to accomplish this, please don't register your own Scout group in the parade. Instead, please contact the Parade Coordinator for the parade(s) your Scout group wants to march in. Contact information and specific parade details are included here for each parade, so read on to find the info for your parade.

Webelos Overnight PDF Print E-mail

Webelos OvernightWebelos and Arrow of Light Scouts (who were Bear and Webelos Scouts prior to June) are invited to experience an overnight Boy Scout campout. Have fun in the outdoors, learn camping skills, work on rank requirements, and meet Boy Scouts and adults leaders from your neighborhood Troops.

When we get to camp, we'll form Patrols and then do everything together using the Boy Scout Patrol Method. We'll setup campsites, cook our own meals over the fire and in dutch ovens, have a campfire and cracker-barrel, participate in lots of fun Boy Scout activities, and even work on some Webelos and Arrow of Light rank requirements. See you 'round the campfire!

Cub Scout Day Camp PDF Print E-mail

Logo 2016Aquila District holds day camp at beautiful Schoenwald Park in Burien, Washington. Schoenwald Park is maintained and provided to us by the Kiwanis Club of Highline, Burien, and it is located behind Sylvester Middle School. If you have not been to Cub Scout day camp before, now is the time. Getting outdoors is what appeals most to boys, and Day Camp experiences are what boys remember most about Cub Scouting. This is the promise of Scouting and it's why we're here. Each day at camp, Scouts will spend their time doing the kinds of things most young boys love to do including crafts, cooking, nature exploration, archery, wood-working, leather-working, BB guns, and games.

Merit Badge Counselors PDF Print E-mail

Merit Badge Counselors Neededmerit_badges

Aquila district is in the process of updating the current list of merit badge counselors. If you are currently a merit badge counselor please respond to or email Ken DeVos, (206) 248-2543. We need to know the merit badge(s) that you are the counselor for and the troop that you are affiliated with. Please specify if you are willing to reach outside your troop. If you do not wish to continue as MBC let us know that too.

If you are interested in becoming a merit badge counselor read on...

The merit badge program is part of the Boy Scouts of America advancement plan. It has guided the interests and energies of Boy Scouts for 85 years and is one of the most unusual educational programs ever devised. A merit badge is an award that is presented to a Boy Scout or Varsity Scout when he has completed the requirements for one of more than 100 subjects in a wide variety of art, craft, hobby, sport, trade, profession, agribusiness, service, or self-improvement areas. The badge is only a small piece of cloth with a design embroidered in color -- but its significance is as large as the interest of the merit badge counselor who helps a Scout earn it.

This could not have happened without the service of thousands of merit badge counselors -- like yourself -- expert in a particular subject and interested in helping Scouts grow into men of character, ready to take their place in the world of work as participating citizens. Please consider becoming a registered Merit Badge Counselor.
