Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills Training (IOLS) PDF Print E-mail

IOLS TrainingOutdoor skills are critical to the success of the Scouting program, and Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills will provide the expertise needed to plan, execute, and enjoy a successful and fun outdoor program. This hands-on course provides adult leaders the practical outdoor skills they need to lead Scouts in the outdoors. Upon completion, leaders should feel comfortable teaching Scouts the basic skills required to obtain the First Class rank.

Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills is required for all Scoutmasters, Assistant Scoutmasters, and Varsity Scout Coaches in order to be considered trained. Completion of this course, along with Youth Protection and Scoutmaster Specific trainings, will enable direct contact leaders to be rechartered in your unit as a Scoutmaster or Assistant Scoutmaster. This training is also recommended for second year Webelos leaders and Troop Committee members too.

Instructors will provide hands-on knowledge of setting up camp, outdoor cooking, working with wood tools, knot tying and lashings, first aid techniques, planning campfire programs, orienteering, hiking and backpacking techniques, nature identification, as well as Leave No Trace principals.

Volunteer Recognition Night PDF Print E-mail

RecognitionThe Aquila District Volunteer Recognition Night is a special celebration of the adult volunteers in our Packs, Troops, Crews, Ships, Teams, Posts, and District. We have a fun get together with great people, good food, and a ceremony to thank the many volunteers for the excellent work they do for our Scouts.

Have you thanks your volunteers yet? Here's your chance! If you've already thanked your volunteers at a Unit event, this is an opportunity to make an even bigger impact. It also gives your volunteers a chance meet other volunteers who have gone above and beyond in their efforts. The excitement and energy from this event will flow right back into your Unit!

Range Officer Training PDF Print E-mail

range officerBSA guidelines permit BB gun and archery shooting under the supervision of trained and currently certified Range Officers. Range Officers are trained and certified by Council approved National Camping School certified Shooting Sports Directors. This training is for adults, age 18 or older, interested in leading a shooting sport activity at Day Camp, Camporee, etc. Range Officer certification is granted for 2 years and must be retaken after 2 years in order to maintain certification.

The Boy Scouts of America uses responsible outdoor activities to promote character development and values-based leadership training. Shooting sports have the ability to attract and retain youth in the movement. Millions of young people participate in one or more of the sports annually - archery, rifle shooting, shotgun activities, etc. - guided by adult volunteers who have the skills and knowledge to provide quality programs in a safe and effective way.

Merit Badge Counselors PDF Print E-mail

Merit Badge Counselors Neededmerit_badges

Aquila district is in the process of updating the current list of merit badge counselors. If you are currently a merit badge counselor please respond to or email Ken DeVos, (206) 248-2543. We need to know the merit badge(s) that you are the counselor for and the troop that you are affiliated with. Please specify if you are willing to reach outside your troop. If you do not wish to continue as MBC let us know that too.

If you are interested in becoming a merit badge counselor read on...

The merit badge program is part of the Boy Scouts of America advancement plan. It has guided the interests and energies of Boy Scouts for 85 years and is one of the most unusual educational programs ever devised. A merit badge is an award that is presented to a Boy Scout or Varsity Scout when he has completed the requirements for one of more than 100 subjects in a wide variety of art, craft, hobby, sport, trade, profession, agribusiness, service, or self-improvement areas. The badge is only a small piece of cloth with a design embroidered in color -- but its significance is as large as the interest of the merit badge counselor who helps a Scout earn it.

This could not have happened without the service of thousands of merit badge counselors -- like yourself -- expert in a particular subject and interested in helping Scouts grow into men of character, ready to take their place in the world of work as participating citizens. Please consider becoming a registered Merit Badge Counselor.
