Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills.
WHO SHOULD ATTEND?
TO RECHARTER IN DECEMBER 2012, COMPLETION WILL BE REQUIRED BY:
ALL Scoutmasters & Assistant Scoutmasters, Varsity Team Leaders& Assistant Team Leaders, and Venture Crew Advisors & Associate Crew Advisors.
IT IS HIGHLY RECOMMEND FOR: 2nd year WEBELOS LEADERS, PARENTS, GUARDIANS and any adult who intends to participate with their units in outdoor activities. ALSO, ALL NEW AND EXPERIENCED Troop Committee Members and those who wish to gain a better understanding of the outdoor program.
WHAT WILL BE COVERED?
A “hands-on training” that will provide adults and adult leaders the necessary practical skills to successfully lead Scouts in outdoor activities. Some of those skills include, the use of the “patrol method and buddy system”, backpacking and selecting proper gear & equipment , outdoor cooking, knot tying & lashings, whipping ropes, the correct safe handling and sharpening of woods tools, using the principals of Leave No Trace, setting up campfire programs, fire building, first-aid, the use of map & compass, and a host of other pertinent skills related to the outdoors – to the skill level of a Fist Class Scout.
