Service Opportunities
The BSA’s Adopt-a-School program is an exciting new undertaking that will connect Scout packs, troops, and crews across the country with schools in their communities.
Participating Scouts then work—within clearly defined guidelines—to team up with school administrations and offer the volunteer services that most efficiently meet their school’s needs. With each unit offering their school a minimum one-year commitment, meaningful community relationships are built and significant changes will happen in the schools.
Exciting milestones have been set to strengthen the presence and progress of the Adopt-a-School program. By the fall of 2012, we plan to meet our goal of 15,000 adopted schools, and 25,000 by July 2013!
The hope at the heart of Adopt-a-School is to build strong, sustaining relationships with these schools, creating thousands of lasting community relationships across the U.S. Through committed volunteer efforts—from landscaping and cleanup outside the school building to Scouts’ active participation in school events throughout the year—the BSA will become a defined presence in improving our nation’s schools. |

This great service project or potential Eagle Scout Project comes to us from the Lakes Neighborhood Council in Kent. The picket fence across from the Historic Nealy Home in The Lakes was knocked down by vandals several weeks ago. The fence was originally a Boy Scouts project build. I wonder if The Boy Scouts would consider rebuilding it using some of the existing good material and replacing the posts that were rotted out at the bottom and any material that was broken?

The City of Kent has started a Neighborhood Program to help local neighborhoods with projects designed to improve their surroundings. The program offers staff support and resources to help neighborhoods get organized. and provides some grants for improvement projects. Most of these projects could fall within the scope of an Eagle Scout service project. All projects would welcome the involvement of Scouts.
Contact Toni Azzola, Neighborhood Program Coordinator at 253-856-5708 or by email.
Download the flyer, or view the program's website. |
Our Kiwanis Club of Kent-AM has a potential project -- and we'll provide the funding, materials, AND some volunteers. We need someone to oversee, plan, and execute the project.
We strongly support Scenic Hill Elementary -- and they have a painted map of the United States near the playground that is in desperate need of being renewed/repainted/fixed. We'd like to make sure that it gets done by early in the 2010-2011 school year, and hope that an Eagle Scout candidate would like to tackle this project.
Any help you can give would be appreciated!

The home occupied by a single mom in Auburn has a fence that was damaged by a truck. The driver of the truck had no insurance, and the homeowner has no way to fix the fence. Approximately 20 feet of fence needs to be repaired. This might require 1-2 Saturdays or a full weekend. Contact Darla Sklar for more information.

My name is Adam Jackson and I am the volunteer coordinator with the King Conservation District. We are a Special Purpose District that works within King County to promote the sustainable uses of natural resources through responsible stewardship. Part of this mission includes stream restoration. We have many projects that would be a great fit for a group of Scouts, or for an Eagle Scout Project. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions about the district or our projects, and if you are looking for volunteer opportunities in the future please feel free to contact me.

I am a zookeeper at the Woodland Park Zoo, in Seattle. Out veterinarian department said in the past they had worked with an Eagle Scout who helped them make some anesthesia boxes and did a wonderful job. I work in the raptor area and was wondering if perhaps there is a scout needing a project.
