Help our newest parents and their Scouts get their Scouting experience off to a great start by using the BSA’s free new onboarding recruitment event tool—large, 10.5-by-13.5-inch full-color envelopes that incorporate the latest BSA membership recruitment campaign graphics.
The envelopes are large enough to accommodate all of your council’s promotional information and resources so your new families walk away with one big “packet of adventure” to start their journey in the Scouting program.
The envelopes include space for a parent to record important information about their son’s unit, including leader names, phone numbers, and locations and times of upcoming meetings. There also is a call to action for new parents and leaders to check out the upgraded BeAScout.org/welcome website (also available in Spanish), where they can get more information.
The back side features specially selected promotional ads from Boys’ Life, the STEM/Nova Award program, and the Scouting Alumni Association; a special message about Youth Protection; and a discount coupon for all BSA Scout shops.
To learn more about these effective new onboarding envelopes—and to order a supply for your council’s recruiting events, if you haven’t already—read the online onboarding recruitment envelopes information sheet.
Please contact the Program Impact Department at 972-580-2441 or via email with any questions.
Our Council is ordering these so they will be available for the Fall Cub Scout recruiting activities.

The new adult leader application (524-501) states on the cover that all applicants for membership are required to take Youth Protection Training within 30 days of registering. This is NOT the case in the Chief Seattle Council. All applicants for membership are REQUIRED to complete Youth Protection Training BEFORE submitting their application and before volunteer service with youth begins. A certificate of completion must be attached to the adult leader application in order to be processed. Youth Protection Training is available online at www.scouting.org.
Thank you for understanding the importance of keeping our youth safe! |
As we move into recharter, your units are probably going to want to check the Youth Protection training status of their adults with the MyScouting tool. Download the instructions graciously provided by the training chair for the Sammamish Trails District.

Youth safety is the No. 1 concern of the BSA.
To increase awareness of this societal problem and to create even greater barriers to abuse than already exist today in Scouting, the Boy Scouts of America is implementing several important changes to further enhance its Youth Protection policies.
Effective June 1, 2010:
- -- Youth Protection training is required for all registered volunteers.
- -- New leaders are required to take Youth Protection training before they submit an application for registration. The certificate of completion for this training must be submitted at the time application is made and before volunteer service with youth begins.
- -- Youth Protection training must be taken every two years. If a volunteer's Youth Protection training record is not current at the time of recharter, the volunteer will not be reregistered.
