About the Eagle Scout rank
For more than 100 years Eagle Scouts have come to be recognized as responsible young men who have developed the qualities of leadership, self-reliance and fitness. The Eagle Scout rank carries with it a special significance, not only in Scouting, but also in higher education, business, and community serving organizations. The award is a performance-based achievement whose standards have been well maintained over the years. Today, less than 6% of all young people who enter Scouting earn the honor of Eagle Scout. To earn the Eagle Scout rank, the highest advancement rank in Scouting, a Boy Scout must fulfill requirements in the areas of leadership, service, and outdoor skills. In 2011, 426 young men reached the rank of Eagle Scout!
