WILLIAM H. GATES, III

A Life Scout, Bill Gates became fascinated with computers during high school. In 1975, Mr. Gates co-founded Microsoft, which has become the worldwide leader in personal computer software, services and solutions.

Mr. Gates now spends much of his time transforming the lives of some of the world's poorest citizens through the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. He and his wife, Melinda, work together to expand opportunities to disadvantaged people by applying business principles to philanthropy. The Gates Foundation focuses on helping all people lead healthy, productive lives by improving health, fighting poverty, and promoting education. In 2009, the Gates Foundation spent $3 billion on charitable causes.
