District Leadership Training

If we want Scouting to do well, we need trained leaders. Every boy deserves a trained leader.

The district training committee is chaired by Mike Geiser. It oversees the following:

    1. Determines who needs training
    2. Builds an annual training plan
    3. Develops plans for specific courses
    4. Promotes courses
    5. Provides training recognition
    6. Evaluates training

What do you need in order to be "trained"?

training-steps

Each adult leader should first take Youth Protection training and Fast Start, which is available online. Then, they should take This is Scouting Training. After these two training programs, there are "leader-specific" trainings required:

Cub Scout Leaders. (1) Youth Protection & This is Scouting Training, (2) Cub Scout Leader Specific Training

Scoutmaster and Assistant Scoutmasters. (1) Youth Protection & This is Scouting Training, (2) Scoutmaster Leader Specific Training, (3) Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills

Varsity Scout Leaders. (1) Youth Protection & This is Scouting Training, (2) Varsity Scout Leader Specific Training, (3) Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills

Committee Members. (1) Youth Protection & This is Scouting Training, (2) Troop Committee Challenge

Venturing Crew Advisors, Asst Advisors, and Crew Committee members. (1) Youth Protection & This is Scouting Training, (2) Venturing Leader Specific Training

District Supplemental Training

After receiving your basic training, there are excellent opportunities to further your training. Some of these supplemental trainings are required to hold certain activities with your scout unit (e.g. Safe Swim Defense and Safety Afloat are required for a boating activity.) See the training schedule (link is in the right column) for more information.

Council Supplemental Training

Additional supplemental training is available from the council, the pinnacle of which is called Woodbadge.
