Venturing is a youth development program of the Boy Scouts of America for young men and women who are 14 (and have completed the eighth grade) through 20 years of age. It's purpose is to provide positive experiences to help young people mature and to prepare them to become responsible and caring adults. Venturing is based on a unique and dynamic relationship between youth, adult leaders, and organizations in their communities. Local community organizations establish a Venturing crew by matching their people and program resources to the interests of young people in the community. The result is a program of exciting and meaningful activities that helps youth pursue their special interests, grow, develop leadership skills, and become good citizens.

The Kodiak course combines the elements of leadership and service to others as the two key tenants of Venturing. Servant leadership is a philosophy that teaches the leader to work with and through a team to accomplish the mission.
Kodiak's methods are the following: Challenging outdoor treks to use nature as a classroom (no indoor sessions). Five leadership skills, called "commissions," are taught. They can be offered over a week, or over two weekends. It uses a hands-on teaching approach with very short presentations. Click here for training details and here for events and updates.
Kodiak X Kodiak X is a leadership challenge course that builds on the skills gained at a Venturing Leadership Skills Course (VLSC) and the leadership commissions learned at a Kodiak. Completion of a Kodiak is a prerequisite to attend a Kodiak X. Kodiak X is the third in the Venturing Nature of Leadership series and participants will review what they learned at Kodiak, and gain two additional Commissions. Download the application here. |
