Wood Badge is the advanced leadership training for adult Scout leaders throughout the world. The purpose of Wood Badge is to develop skilled leaders who can strengthen Scouting units in achieving the mission of the Boy Scouts of America.
The program is for Cub Scout, Boy Scout, Varsity Scout, and Venturing leaders, as well as all Council and District leaders. The heart of Wood Badge is small group leadership, and understanding how teams develop. It is great fun too. This training not only benefits Scouting, it also helps people at work, in church, with other groups, and in their families.
Courses have a combined classroom and practical outdoors-based phase followed by a Wood Badge ticket, also known as the project phase. By "working the ticket", participants put their newly gained experience into practice and contribute to Scouting in their primary position.

Here's what some people are saying about Wood Badge:
"I can honestly say that Wood Badge was one of the best experiences I have ever had."
"Wood Badge was better than any professional leadership training I have ever taken and at a fraction of the price."
"It is nice to see friends I made at Wood Badge during other council and district events."
"I wish I had made the decision to go to Wood Badge earlier, but got so much out of it even towards the end of my Scouting career."
"Running my den has been much easier due to the skills I acquired at Wood Badge."
Quick Story... My oldest son had just completed what was then called Junior Leader Training (JLT), now called National Youth Leader Training (NYLT). His first words, when picked up from Camp Sheppard, were "I get it now." What he "got" was the leadership language and principles his adult leaders were talking about as well as the in-depth meaning of our Scouting Program.
I am confident that your Pack, Troop, Team, or Crew is one of quality and puts on a good program for your youth. But imagine for a moment... your youth leaders & your adult leaders understanding and speaking the same language.
Your unit may do fine things now, yet the potential could be astronomical... Just like the pioneers of long past days in America's beginning, their aspirations were only bound by their own personal visions. Your unit will go beyond what you have achieved and reach previously unimaginable heights when you send your youth to NYLT and you & your fellow Scout Leaders attend Wood Badge. When you have fellow scouters attend with you, you'll find that the workload in your unit is shared and the outcome is a stronger Pack, Troop, Team, or Crew - all for the benefit of our youth.
To my Pack Leaders, yes your youth may be too young for NYLT... But no one reading this note is too young, too old, too inexperienced, or too experienced for Wood Badge.
Regardless of the program you are in - Cubs, Troops, Varsity, or Venturing - the connections you make with other Scouters as well as the complete Wood Badge experience will propel your unit into the 21st Century beyond what you can imagine today.
