Welcome New Foundation Members

Welcome to the newest Scoutreach Foundation members; Shaun Alexander of the Seattle Seahawks, Warren Moon, Hall of Famer and former Seahawk, and Jeff Brotman, co-founder of Costco Wholesale

“We are very excited to be able to work with such distinguished community leaders and business professionals. I have served on more than 25 not for profit board and this is the most diverse board of directors I have ever worked with. All members of the Scoutreach Foundation Board are highly respected, community-minded people who strive to make a positive impact in the lives of youth today. The greater-Puget Sound area is very diverse, so it is crucial for us to work with experienced, influential, individuals from different backgrounds to reach out to today’s families,” said Scott Oki, Vice President of Scoutreach.

Scoutreach Lunch & Golf Social

Former Governors Dan Evans and Gary Locke invite you to join them for lunch and golf social to raise $150,000 for the Scoutreach initiative on Friday, May 11, 2007 at the Newcastle Golf Course. Your support and participation will help to serve more children and give them an opportunity to participate in character building programs. Sponsor a group of four at $1000 and recruit three guests to attend the event. After lunch you and your guests will have the opportunity to play golf at Newcastle hosted by Scott Oki. For additional information and to reserve your foursome please contact CC Stolberg at (206) 902-2325 or cstolberg@seattlebsa.org.

Grant Funding for Scoutreach Grows

As 2006 comes to a close, we are reminded of the wonderful support we have been given. We would like to thank the Peierls Foundations for their generous support to Scoutreach, and Learning for Life.  They have been instrumental in helping our Scoutreach programs grow from 500 participants in 2003 to nearly 3500 in 2006.

We would also like to thank the Medina Foundation for donating $25,000 to Scoutreach.

Both foundations are helping youth in the Seattle area enjoy programs such as Soccer & Scouting, Scouthoops, Children of Incarcerated Parents, and Urban Day Camp.

Scoutreach Youth to Attend Winter Camp

On December 16-17 Scoutreach Cub Scouts will have an opportunity to attend Winter Camp at Camp Sheppard. With recent early season snow, inner-tubing on the sledding hill and snowshoe hikes are in the plan. Camperships, supervision, and transportation will be provided to remove any roadblocks to participation for boys that may otherwise never be able to attend camp.

Future Scoutreach camps include Cub Scout Day at Camp in the spring and Summer Day and Resident Camp.

For more details contact Brianna Lewis at (206) 902-2334 or blewis@seattlebsa.org.

Scoutreach Programs Expand on the Kitsap Peninsula

With the great vision of Scoutreach program leader, Margo Curley, youth are being served year round through partnerships with the Bainbridge Island and Belfair Boys and Girls Club, Salvation Army, and the Kitsap Consolidated Housing Authority.

With the goal of creating sustainable partnerships Margo gives program leaders the title of Scoutreach Commissioner with the mission of getting parents and partner staff to leader training and transitioning the unit to a volunteer driven program.

The Kitsap Scoutreach program features a “fun-raiser” Motorcycle Poker Run in partnership with the Goldwing Roadrunners Association, Legend Harley, and the American Legion. With a great beginning in 2006 this event raised $2500 for Scoutreach. Plans for 2007 include a route around Hood Canal with a stop at Camp Parsons.

Scoutreach in Kitsap County has a long history. Cub Scout Pack 110 in partnership with the Bremerton Housing Authority was created ten years ago when Kitsap District volunteers created three weeks of summer day camp for youth at the housing authority. The program has continued to this day.

Soccer and Scouting’s Partnership with Starfire Positive for Youth

During 2006 Soccer and Scouting has served over 710 Scouts from South King County during the spring, summer and fall seasons.  In October, Soccer and Scouting expanded to serve Bellevue youth with a partnership with St. Louise Parish. Soccer and Scouting’s partnership with Starfire began in March 2004 when the program was kicked off. In addition to providing world class soccer facilities for practice and game days, Starfire make an annual $6300 gift to the Scoutreach Foundation and facilitated an indoor league for older youth in the Venturing program.

Join us Saturday, December 2, 5-9 p.m. at Starfire for the Futbolito Tournament which will conclude the fall 2006 season. Players will compete in a round robin style tournament against youth of their own age and rank. The event will be covered by local Hispanic newspapers.

Soccer and Scouting would also like to thank Warren Moon of Burien Chevrolet for featuring Scoutreach during his radio advertisements on KJR Sports Radio and providing a portion of their proceeds for Scoutreach
