Celebrating Scout
Anniversary Week
Scouts and Scout leaders are
encouraged to celebrate the 98th
anniversary of Scouting in a visible way during the week of February 3-9,
2008. Scouts should plan to wear their uniform to school on the day of
their Scout meeting and also to their house of worship on Scout Sunday or
Scout Sabbath.
If
your Scout group is chartered with a religious organization, now is the
time to begin planning to have your Scouts help lead worship service on
Scout Sunday or Sabbath. Other ways to include everyone in the anniversary
celebration include: articles/inserts in religious service bulletins,
performing a service project in a public area, or creating a static
display for a library or local business.

Report to the State
Attorney General Rob
McKenna and Lt. Governor Brad Owen are co-chairs for the third annual Report
to the State on February 6th and 7th in Olympia. Councils from around
Washington are sending selected Eagle Scouts to continue the goodwill and
exposure gained with our legislators last March. The evening of the 6th, our
Scouts will enjoy a banquet with Scouting and government leaders. following
the legislative presentations the next day, the Scouts will participate in
job shadows with various state agencies. An important element of the report
is the service provided through the Good Turn for America initiative. So far
this year 7734 Scouts and volunteers, from 189 packs and troops, have
reported 124,934 hours of service, exceeding our council goal of 120,000
hours.

Very soon our first Webelos and Boy Scout Winter Campers will be coming to
Camp Sheppard! We are hoping for continued snowy weather, and it looks like
it will be a great season. Most of our sessions are now full, but we do
still have room for Boy Scouts the weekend of February 29-March 2. We also
have openings for Plan C (Friday night through Saturday afternoon) for some
of the Webelos and Boy Scout sessions. Enrollment can change rapidly, even
daily, so contact the Camping Department at
campingdept@seattlebsa.org to check on availability. For more
information about the camp,

2008 Wood Badge
Leadership Training Spring Course:
April
24th-26th and May 15th-17th
Camp Parsons
By
Scoutmaster Robert Newbill
What is Wood Badge?
Wood Badge is
a leadership course designed so every adult leader for Cub Scouts, Boy
Scouts, Varsity Scouts, or Venturing, as well as district and council
leaders and professionals, can take the Wood Badge course within two years
of becoming a Scouter (though it is never too late).
What will I get out of Wood Badge?
As a
participant you will take part in many presentations, discussions, and
activities that explore a wide range of leadership philosophies and tools.
A key area of exploration is the process of team development. By
recognizing the stages through which developing teams must pass, you will
learn to apply appropriate leadership strategies that enable teams to
reach their highest level of performance.
When and where is Wood Badge offered?
The spring
2008 course consists of two Friday-Sunday weekends, April 24-26 and May
15-17 at Camp Parsons.
* Fall
course is September 12-14 and 26-28, lead by Lyle Hall.
